Fatal traffic accidents; Half of all American deaths are caused by drug addiction

Washington: A study conducted in the United States has found that more than half of the people injured or killed in traffic accidents are under the influence of drugs.

In a study conducted by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 54 percent of injured drivers tested positive for drugs or alcohol in their blood samples.

The study authors said the results of the study cannot be used to measure drugs in the blood of road users across the country. However, the presence of these components in the blood of a large number of drivers and passengers is worrisome.

Ann Carlson, the agency's acting administrator, said the study found that about 20 percent of drivers had a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher. This amount is more than the legal limit declared by the states.

Blood tests were studied at seven level one trauma centers and four medical examiners' offices across the country.

The number of deaths in traffic accidents has increased dramatically since the start of the global Covid pandemic. While other uses of cannabis by the states are affecting traffic safety.
